Andrew McClean explores the debate about whether vaccinations should be compulsory for primary care health workers

A government consultation has been launched on whether to extend vaccination requirements for Covid-19 and flu to other health and social care workers in England.

Requirements would be the same as the condition of deployment for those working in Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered adult care homes, which required them to be vaccinated to protect vulnerable adults.

If introduced, the policy would require frontline health and care workers to be vaccinated, unless exempt because of a legitimate medical reason.

This group was defined as having face-to-face contact with patients and clients through the delivery of services as part of a CQC regulated activity.
