Booster vaccine programme announced

Frontline health and social care workers are first in line for the booster jab

Frontline health and social care workers have been included on a list for the Covid-19 vaccine booster programme to provide protection during the coming winter months.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advised that booster vaccines be offered to those who were vaccinated during phase one of the vaccine programme, which included optical staff.

It advised that the booster was not offered any earlier than six months after completion of the primary vaccine course and in the same order as phase one.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was preferred by the JCVI regardless of which brand people received for their primary doses after data showed it was well tolerated as a third dose and provided a strong booster response.
