
Coronavirus (Covid-19), apprenticeships and a five-year strategic plan were all discussed at the General Optical Council’s latest public meeting on February 26.
Lesley Longstone, chief executive of the GOC, provided Council members with an update on the regulator’s activity regarding coronavirus and how it is ensuring the profession is equipped to deal with the situation should it need to.
She explained that the GOC is keeping regular contact with the NHS through weekly meetings. Guidance for optical professionals in primary care has been published by NHS England. The GOC is also updating its website with the latest guidance from health bodies and will be providing access to materials on the topic for practitioners.
