Lenses as therapy

Frank Norville recently organised a training day where key speakers debated new developments in spectacle lenses. Bill Harvey reports

Frank Norville has always been one to look at expanding the variety of corrective lenses in his catalogue and has recently added a number of interesting products, each claiming various benefits to the wearer suffering from a range of symptoms. These include selectively tinted lenses to help with reading problems, the VistaMesh lens aimed at reducing migraine and visual stress and, most recently, a yellow tinted lens designed to help patients with macular degeneration.

Sometimes such products are introduced with a minimum of evidence-based literature to support the claims of suppliers and, aware of this, Norville has to be commended for his open approach. The thinking behind the recent Clinical Ophthalmic Lenses Conference was to invite speakers and delegates from across the spectrum of eye care practice for a lively and interactive session of honest opinion.
