Transitions
Signature Gen 8
Transitions Signature Gen 8 (pictured above) is said to be the first light intelligent photochromic lens with a revolutionary nano-composite technology that pushes performance and offers optimum vision, comfort and protection.
Available in a full colour palette including amber, amethyst, emerald and sapphire, Transitions, part of Essilor-Luxottica, says the lens adds personality and style to frames and offers a practical solution to ultraviolet (UV) protection.
Patients can find their chosen colour using the Transitions virtual ‘try on’ mirror, while the interactive online light sensitivity test aims to help deepen awareness of light management.
Alan Pitcher, commercial director for wholesale lenses at EssilorLuxottica, said: ‘These interactive tools will help spark conversations between patients and their local practice. We also have style workshops and technical product training available for the practice team to support wider conversations around tailor-made solutions and Transitions Signature Gen 8 being the best overall photochromic lens on the market.’
Tokai
Lutina Photo
By combining a photochromic front surface coating with its exclusive Lutina material, Tokai says it has created a versatile product that blocks 100% of UV light as well as 94% of high energy violet light, up to 420nm.
Additionally, the back surface is coated with Tokai’s unique P-UV coating, which minimises rear surface UV reflections by up to 95%.
The lens is available in three colours: brown, grey and surf blue. The colours provide varying levels of absorption (10-77%, 10-85%, and 8-47%, respectively) to keep eyes comfortable in all light conditions.
The product is offered in a range of lens options, from single vision to indoor and varifocal designs in 1.60, 1.67 and 1.76 index, ensuring the protection and choice for the lens wearer.
Optimum RX Group
Optichromic fast
Optimum Rx Lens Group’s Optichromic photochromic lens product is available in two versions. Optichromic Fast lenses are said to be optimised for super-fast adaptation to changing light conditions, even in cold temperatures.
Optichromic Essential lenses are said to be ideal for existing photochromic wearers looking for optimum fade back and enhanced aesthetics, while also offering value for new patients and delivering an effective balance of darkness outdoors, fade back speed and indoor clarity.
Optimum says its Optichromic range offers a wide choice in lens designs and material index along with a vast range of colour options including polarised photochromics.
The lab offers single vision 1.5 to 1.74, bifocals D28, D35 and round 24, 1.5 to 1.74 and progressives 1.5 to 1.74 material indices, making all these available with high prescriptions.
Hoya
Sensity fast
Hoya says its Sensity Fast photochromic lens has the fastest fade back speed available and reaches half clear in seconds.
The product is said to satisfy the needs of the most active and demanding photochromic wearers through precision photochromic technology for long lasting performance, providing improved convenience and a stylish appearance.
Sensity Fast is said to be ideal for previously unhappy photochromic wearers or first-time wearers looking for fast fade back.
According to Hoya, it also provides a photochromic solution for younger and more active patients looking for a lens to keep up with their busy lifestyle with the confidence of full UV protection.
IOT
Neochromes
IOT’s Neochromes light-activated lenses are said to provide an alternative, independent offering for practices seeking the highest quality photochromic solutions.
According to IOT, Neochromes lenses deliver exceptional clarity indoors, darkening within a few seconds when exposed to UV light with a quick and comfortable fade-back speed.
As well as blocking 100% of UVA and UVB rays, Neochromes are said to provide an enhanced level of protection with its blue light filter reducing the harmful effects of the sun’s rays.
The company notes that Neochromes provides wearers with clear and comfortable vision in any environment and any light and have been specifically designed to deliver optimal and balanced performance.
Neochromes is available in grey or brown in indices including 1.50, 1.60 and 1.67 with consistent performance in all materials.
DSW Optical
Handling glare
DSW Optical says it tries to ensure all patients’ needs are met and that this is not always restricted to purely maximising the optics, but also enhancing the cosmetic and wearability of its lenses.
The labs notes that, for many patients, having a single pair of glasses provides convenience, but they still want to feel comfortable in a park in summer and when they drive home late from work in winter.
DSW supplies its own photochromic product as well as other branded and unbranded lenses in the same category, allowing patients to choose colours to match the frame and even blend with dynamic polarisation to assist with glare in bright outdoor conditions.
Eye Index
Photochromic
Eye Index offers its own photochromic lens available in a wide range of designs and high index materials in addition to all Transitions and photochromic lens design technologies.
For use inside a car, where normal photochromic lenses do not work well, Eye Index offers Transitions Drivewear. This product is said to react effectively to driver requirements by combining both photochromic and polarisation technology.
Eye Index is also able to respond to specialised and out-of-range photochromic requirements on request.
Younger Optics
Trilogy Transitions
Younger Optics says that no other lens company supplies such a wide range of segmented lenses in Transitions Generation 8 and Xtractive in grey and brown, including trifocals and high adds.
The company notes that older patients may be more light-sensitive and, in the event of a fall, the benefits of increased impact protection and lightweight offered by Polycarbonate and Trilogy materials is significant with higher prescriptions and adds also taken into consideration.
Hard Resin 1.5, Trilogy (Trivex) and a patented poly composite technology enables the consideration of FT28, FT28x7 and FT35 in mid index options.
Poly composite lenses have a Trilogy Transitions segmented ‘wafer’ chemically bonded to the poly carrier with a maximum combined power of -11/+7 with adds to 4.00D, dependent on lens type.
