It may not come as too much of a surprise to find that some of the fastest growing technology is based around popular platforms such as the iPad; it may come as more of a surprise to find less than half of those practices quizzed use an autorefractor.
Tonometry is the most widely used piece of instrumentation according to the Market Monitor conducted in May. Of those asked 98.2% said their practice used a tonometer. This was followed by the 82.1% using a keratometer and 67.7% using fundus photography. Just 42.9% opted for an autorefractor. Other low scorers were more understandable; pachymeters are used by a quarter and a topographer by 14.3%. Of those responding 7.3% use a specialist AMD testing kit such as an MPOD.
