‘In essence we are a big family,’ says Satnam Johal, retail director at Specsavers Bicester, when asked about the ethos of his award-winning practice.

The Bicester store scooped the accolade at this year’s Optician Awards and he says the cohesive feel in the store played its part in making that possible. Spending so much time together with colleagues makes life in practice much more than just a job.

He’s proud of the support and care the more experienced members of staff can offer the younger members to make sure that they are happy and cared for. ‘The team need to enjoy work or otherwise it will feel like work.’ He says the practice has a very low attrition rate and he feels very lucky to have the team they do.
