The enhanced service category was one of the most fiercely contested at the 2015 Optician Awards, but the winning practice’s senior optometrist and chairman Nick Rumney maintains a sense of modesty when discussing the triumph.
He says that Hereford-based practice BBR Optometry’s collaboration with Hereford Local Optical Committee (LOC) has seen the development of essential diverse primary care schemes in an under-resourced rural county.
‘Everything we do has been in collaboration with the LOC,’ Rumney says, ‘and the award is as much theirs and our local colleagues as ours. We have also had huge support from ophthalmology, general practice, the clinical commissioning group and of course our patients’.
