Could a ransom note for a missing cat help Oscar O’Neill catch the culprits?

Oscar was sitting in DI Luke Stott’s office waiting for the policemen to get to the point. Up until now they had just been chatting about this and that over a cup of coffee. For his part, Stott had been trying to find out a bit more about Oscar. He had known him for some time, but did not really know him at all. What were his interests? What was his character like? There was no suspicion in his mind that Oscar might do anything illegal, but was he a genuinely kind and benevolent person, or was he a bit cynical?
