The ideal method of residual error correction should be quick, effective, and non-invasive; however, currently available strategies fail to tick all of these boxes. Spectacles are traditionally offered as the quickest and least invasive method of correction; however this can be a frustrating solution for most patients who usually desire spectacle independence after surgery. A second option is refractive correction using laser surgery or supplementary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Both options, however, require further surgery - an unattractive option for a patient who has just had cataract surgery.
