The paperless practice: How to reap the benefits

A substantial portion of a practice’s daily activities revolves around record keeping. It occurs at every stage of the patient journey, from recording pre-screening results, to recording the spectacle prescription and eye exam findings and finally when noting down facial and frame measurements during dispensing. Many practices operate a paper record system, which travels around the practice with the patient. With today’s fast IT systems and technological developments, why not consider an electronic paperless record system? In May 2012 our practice went live with the i-Clarity practice management system (Topcon UK), and around the same time we made the positive leap to becoming a paperless practice. There was a transitional period and now we are 95 per cent completely paperless… and reaping the benefits!
