If you thought Provis was just another contact lens company you would be wrong. Chris Bennett travels to Scotland to talk to the company's founder, Ron Hamilton
As chairman and founder of Provis and inventor of the daily disposable lens, Ron Hamilton explains he isn't in the business of manufacturing and selling contact lenses to UK practitioners. He is firmly in the global daily disposable business.
Hamilton is passionate about the daily modality and expresses bemusement that the major companies are still developing new silicone hydrogel products and the care systems to go along with them.
The recent Section 60 changes to the Opticians Act and the entry of the supermarkets into the contact lens business have accelerated many of the changes taking place within the market and Hamilton says it is no coincidence that Provis recently launched its 58 per cent water content lens to join its existing 72 per cent content product.
He is convinced that the entry of the supermarkets will change the contact lens market massively, but is confident Provis is well placed to benefit from those changes.
