The trends in UK contact lens prescribing 2017

Now in its 22nd year, Professor Philip Morgan reports on the 2017 Eurolens Research survey of UK contact lens prescribing

We have been attempting to track changes in the behaviours of UK contact lens practitioners since 1996. That era was one of getting to grips with the newly-launched daily disposable lenses and before the introduction of silicone hydrogels. While other information about the UK market is available, it tends to be based around market research surveys of existing wearers, is expensive to collect and is generally held as proprietary information within the contact lens manufacturers.

Our survey, on the other hand, is based upon reports of the types of contact lens fitted by a random spread of UK optometrists and opticians and does not seek to capture lens brands but only generic types of contact lenses prescribed.
