More and more, eyewear is being drawn into the world of fashion, as style-conscious consumers seek to make a statement with their frames. If the vast number and variety of frames unveiled at Vision Expo East in New York is anything to judge by, consumers will easily be able to find a frame that makes a statement about their personal style. With warmer days in sight, many designers displayed new frame shapes and colours that had a distinctly summery feel, while others gave a nod to the mod-spirit of the 1960s and disco glamour of the 70s.
Colour coded
White is emerging as the colour of summer 2007 - there were few collections that did not include this colour. But rather than soft pearls and creams, this year's frames were a brilliant, eye-catching white. At Alain Mikli, designers layered black and white acetates to create frames which captured the spirit of the 60s, while at Jalapenos, black and white metallics were used to create very modern frames. Another popular combination was brilliant white and coffee-coloured acetates - many designers picked up on this variation and included it in their collections.
