Optical Express pays tribute to its longest-standing patient

Optical Express has paid tribute to its longest-standing patient, 102-year-old Elsie Wilson from Glasgow.

Wilson was surprised with a spectacle-shaped cake after it was discovered she had been a patient at the Shawlands clinic in Glasgow since Optical Express was founded in 1991.

Despite general good health, she suffers from age related macular degeneration and relies on visits from the domiciliary services team.

She said: ‘I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 16 years old and I can’t imagine what I would have done without them. When I was younger I only wore them for reading, but I need them for everything now. When you get older, you need all the help you can get.’

The company, which is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, made the discovery while researching previous records.

Home eye care manager Aine Scott said: ‘We really appreciate Elsie’s loyalty over the years. She has attended all of her appointments faithfully since she became a patient in 1991. She is a fantastic patient and a great example of how you can improve your sight at any age.’
