A sackful of CET credits

Ranna Rai reports on the 10th Specsavers' Professional Advancement Conference. More delegates, more CET credits and more speakersthan ever before

This one-day clinical conference is the biggest event of its kind in Europe, with more than 1,250 delegates attending this year. The conference, held at the ICC, Birmingham, not only offered a day of lectures, including an extended parallel programme for dispensing opticians and contact lens opticians, but also two CET accredited prize poster quizzes and a full pre-registration programme. Lectures covered a variety of topics, including legal issues, glaucoma, contact lenses, ophthalmic lenses, neurological disease and communication. There was also a well-illustrated CET accredited paper on 'Disorders of the lids and ocular adnexa' by Lyndon Jones of the University of Waterloo, Ontario, and Anthony Cullen in the delegate pack. Through a variety of formats, delegates were therefore able to gain 15 College CET credits and 11 ABDO CET credits. As usual, the conference was open to all qualified optometric and dispensing practitioners.
