Heavy investment by a Specsavers in Scotland has taken its total number of employees up to 60 and boosted domiciliary coverage.

Specsavers Aberdeen has ploughed £500,000 into refurbishment including extra test rooms and modernisation. Fifteen new staff members are planned, with the majority full-time and two fully-qualified optometrists recruited, meaning there will be 13 optometrists at the Union Street store.

David McGinty, store director, said: 'The news is full of stories about economic doom and gloom - shops closing on the high street, businesses going into administration and companies making redundancies.

'However, while these are undoubtedly challenging times, businesses are continuing to invest here in Aberdeen and we have seen a clear rise in demand for high quality eye care in the city. Our store expansion and recruitment drive reflects our commitment to the city. This investment will enable us to meet customer demand and continue to provide a first-class service.'
