Vision Express is closing more than half of its in-store labs and moving production to a new production centre in Nottingham

Vision ExpressVision Express is closing more than half of its in-store labs and moving production to a new production centre in Nottingham.

The firm said this represented a big investment and would help VE remain competitive in an evolving market by meeting the growing demand for more advanced lens technologies. Around 80 lab staff will be affected and a consultation process is now under way.

Jonathan Lawson, CEO, Vision Express said the market had changed since VE was set up 25 years ago. ‘Customers now expect a choice of stylish glasses with the latest technology lens and are moving towards the most advanced and comfortable contact lenses. For customers this means a consistently high quality and range of lens will be available across Vision Express stores nationwide. The industry-leading centre will deliver technologically-advanced and complex products. Each of our frames will be assembled by hand in Nottingham with an expert design and build, from a facility operational seven days per week.’
