A survey commissioned by Johnson & Johnson Vision’s Acuvue brand found that almost half of adults with imperfect vision felt held back by their eyesight.
However, a quarter of respondents did not take any steps to correct their vision, such as visiting an optical practice for a sight test.
Acuvue found that 58% regularly felt frustrated by their sight without vision correction and 23% said it affected their confidence.
Key issues identified included struggling to see fine details and recognising people from afar, with problems felt more at work because it affected their ability to concentrate for long periods.
Seventy-six percent reported experiencing tired eyes on a regular basis due to extended screen time and reading for long periods.
Chirag Amin, general manager at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care in the UK & Ireland, said: ‘It is evident that many people in the UK are simply putting up with their discomfort or tired eyes when it comes to their vision care – missing out on the moments that add to life – when they could use a contact lens that is well suited for their lifestyle instead.’
