GOC has announced that Adam Sampson will be interim chief executive and registrar

The General Optical Council has announced that Adam Sampson will be joining as the interim chief executive and registrar.

Sampson will start at the GOC on June 18 and will be in the role for the next few months. He will be covering for Vicky Dermott, the permanent chief executive, who is currently on a period of absence due to personal reasons.

An experienced chief executive with a background in the charity and non-for-profit sectors, Sampson’s previous roles include being chief legal ombudsman and chief executive for the homelessness charity Shelter.

He said: ‘With new technology, changing patient pathways and new scopes of practice, the sector is evolving quickly and the GOC has a vital role in making sure that patient safety is maintained through that period. I’m looking forward to working with my new colleagues to make sure the GOC continues with this vital work until Vicky returns.’
