In a pre-recorded message played at last Friday's launch of the Vision Strategy, Secretary of State for Health Alan Johnson welcomed the aim of putting greater focus on prevention and patient education.
'I am particularly impressed with the holistic approach that has been taken in developing the strategy,' he said. 'At the core is the need for greater focus on prevention, on the empowerment of the patient, and on the importance of more personalisation. The government has done much to improve the life chances of disabled people, including people with visual impairments, by seeking to remove barriers to the inclusion and participation in community life.'
