The UK's first ever Vision Strategy which aims to unify all bodies involved in a patient's sight loss journey and promote the importance of regular eye tests was published today (April 18) at a conference in London.
This long-awaited strategy aims to establish a unified framework for action on all issues relating to vision across the UK.
Goals for improving the co-ordination, integration, reach and effectiveness of eye health services are set out in the document, as well as improving the diagnosis of eye health conditions and early intervention.
The strategy calls for the commissioning of fully integrated and effective eye care and sight loss services. It says this should ensure the integration of primary and secondary eye care to achieve the most effective, timely and accessible services and treatments for each individual and the best use of community and hospital resources.
Another aim is for reliable, accessible and relevant information on eye conditions, eye care, sight loss services, support networks and legal entitlements to be made easily available in a variety of formats.
