Alfred Sleep, co-founder of respected family company H&A Sleep, died on March 4 aged 95.
He and his brother Horace formed the company in 1930 producing real shell frames and pioneering the manufacture of the three-piece rimless mount.
They built the London-based business steadily over 45 years into a comprehensive prescription house and frame supply company until its sale in 1975. Sleep was an active member of the FMO and a well-known character in the optical industry and profession. He was a lifelong Methodist, supporting the scout movement and his local church group for over 50 years.
He leaves behind two daughters and his son, Kingsley, managing director of Hi-Spec Lenses and a past FMO chairman.
