Alick Taylor celebrates 50 years in optics

Carl Zeiss Vision's technical manager Alick Taylor is celebrating 50 years in optics. Taylor joined London-based Raphael's in the 1950s, making tortoiseshell frames and surfacing lenses.

He studied lenses at night school, completed National Service in Egypt and then joined Harrogate Optical. By the late 1950s Taylor joined Norville as Rx manager before rejoining Harrogate Optical in 1958. In 1969 he became executive company director of the Birch Stigmat. He joined Pilkington Plc as works manager in 1976 and in 1987 was made technical manager of Sola.

Taylor is a member of the British Standards Institute and the ISO Technical Committee. He is a technical advisor for the FMO standards panels.
