Hillier's 50 years are marked in Monaco

A London-based practitioner has been recognised for his 50 years' service to the profession.

Independent optometrist Len Hillier, who runs Hillier Opticians in North Harrow, this month celebrates his golden anniversary in optics.
He began his career in 1953 at the age of 16, working with Frederick Bateman and studying part-time at Northampton College. After qualifying in 1960, Mr Hillier stayed at Frederick Bateman for the next 12 years. He then joined Ronald Brown as a partner at F Hamblin in Feltham where he remained for 20 years.
In 1993 he opened his own practice in North Harrow, where he still works, and acquired a small practice in Pinner which he ran in tandem for five years.
As a testimonial to Mr Hillier, contact lens company Bausch & Lomb presented him with a certificate at the Global Symposium on Vision Correction in Monaco.
Managing director of Bausch & Lomb UK Nick Loan said: 'The Global Symposium was a fitting occasion and venue to recognise such an achievement. The presentation of the certificate not only recognises the longevity of service but rewards Len's contribution to optics and his unselfish dedication to patients over such a time.'
