Vision Express management development consultant Dean Alldis clocked up over 5,500 miles in various saddles as part of a 10-month cycle challenge to help children with eye cancer.
Allis, along with a team of nine other riders, initially participated in a sponsored cycle challenge to raise funds for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT), but went one step further when he challenged himself to ride and additional mile for every £1 of the team’s initial £5,500 target.
The challenge saw the 48-year-old join static rides in shopping centres, ride around Rutland and cover virtual vast distances from his lounge on his gym bike through the bleak winter months.
‘The toughest part was the start, realising I had probably bitten off more than I could chew, but I just kept going and the miles kept clocking up – at least 150 miles per week,’ said Alldis.
The team, which includes the Vision Express ‘Rising Stars’ who are on a management training scheme, beat its original target and have gone on to raise £7150.Going the extra mile
