AMO announces increase in losses

Contact lens solution recall widens fourth-quarter net loss for Advanced Medical Optics.

Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) has said its said its fourth-quarter net loss for 2007 widened to $12.3 million from a net loss of $7.6 million in the same quarter a year earlier because of the cost of contact solution recalls.

As reported in Optician, (June 1 2007), the company recalled its Complete Moisture Plus multipurpose contact lens solution after it was linked by the US Centers for Diseases Control Presentation to a serious outbreak of corneal infections.

However, sales in the last three months rose 25 per cent to $304.6 million on organic growth, the acquisitions of IntraLase Corp and WaveFront Sciences Inc.
