Advanced Medical Optics has reported a quarterly loss due to costs relating to the Complete MoisturePlus recall in May.

AMO posted a third-quarter loss of $25.9m, or 43 cents per share, compared with a profit of $87.2m or $1.42 per share during the same period in 2006.

Eye care sales declined by 48.9 per cent, to $42.2m, with multipurpose sales down 73 per cent. The company said that it had estimated $32.3m in lost sales related to the solution recall, with losses partially being offset by the relaunch of its Complete Easy Rub Multipurpose Solution in the US and Europe.

AMO added that losses from the product recall were also off-set by revenue generated from the acquisition of IntraLase Corp and WaveFront Sciences earlier in the year.
