Researchers from Anglia Ruskin University have been measuring the vision of more than 100 primary school students to evaluate the quality of new vision charts designed specifically for children.
The research team, led by lecturer Yvonne Norgett, won a research grant from the College of Optometrists to determine which of the charts is best at detecting reduced or abnormal vision in children.
The new test charts are aimed at maximising the accuracy of children's visual measurement, which is an important part in the detection of amblyopia.
The pupils were prepared for the visit by learning about eyesight and designing their own 'groovy glasses'. Teacher Heather Webster described the visit as a wonderful opportunity for the children to take part in some actual scientific research.
