Anti-smoking campaign targets blind

A new campaign to help visually impaired and blind people give up smoking was launched in Scotland last week.

The campaign is a joint project by Action on Smoking and Health (Scotland) and the Royal National Institute for the Blind in Scotland (RNIB Scotland). 'Breathing Space' packs, including leaflets in Braille, audiocassette and large print, are being distributed throughout Scotland. The packs, which are free-of-charge, offer hints on giving up and advice to employees on smoking at work. They also include warnings about the health risks of passive smoking. The project was developed following research which found little information about the risks or advice on how to quit was available to visually impaired and blind people. A lottery grant was used to fund the project. For further details contact Action on Smoking and Health (Scotland) on 0131 225 4725.
