The majority of practitioners back the RNIB's call to raise awareness among teenagers about the link between smoking and going blind, an Optician poll of practices around the country has revealed.
As reported in Optician, (February 9), according to a study of 250 clubbers aged 16-18 by the British Journal of Ophthalmology, teenagers fear blindness more than cancer or stroke and yet nine out of 10 do not know about the risks.
The study prompted the RNIB to call on the government to fund a national advertising campaign targeting young people to raise awareness of the link between smoking and going blind.
