RNIB is using this week’s No Smoking Day (March 11) to raise awareness of the link between smoking and sight loss.
The charity warned that smoking significantly increases the risk of developing AMD, amid latest research that almost three quarters of smokers had no idea smoking could lead to sight loss.
Multiple Vision Express and The Macular Society also welcomed No Smoking Day, saying smokers were often much more concerned with the associated risk of cancer and heart disease than they were about sight loss.
