To mark National No Smoking Day (March 10) the RNIB warned that 22 per cent of UK adults were doubling the risk of losing their sight, with few aware of the link between smoking and age-related macular degeneration.
Research shows that 22 per cent of adults aged 16 and over smoked in 2008/2009, and an estimated 54,000 people have AMD as a result of smoking.
