Members of the Association of Optometrists (AOP) have been asked to help shape the professional body’s response to the GOC as it reviewed the business regulation framework.
The GOC stated that the present system of voluntary business registration led to an inconsistent enforcement of its regulatory powers and outlined four key proposals to address the issue.
Dr Peter Hampson, clinical and policy director at the AOP, commented: ‘We welcome the consultation on business regulation but our concerns about how the proposals will be implemented will need to be addressed.’
‘Insights gained from our members will be vital in shaping our response to ensure the standards are appropriate and accurate,’ he added.
The AOP’s members survey will remain open until December 13, 2024, while the GOC consultation will close on January 22, 2025.
