
The Association of Optometrists (AOP) has rolled out a new online resource, titled ‘Transforming eye care for older people for better health’, addressing the policy challenges in eye care for older people.
The AOP called for simple policy changes to enhance support for older people’s eye health, identifying five areas where optometrists can play a pivotal role:
Optometrists should be able to certify vision impairment; low vision services should be available to all individuals across the UK; provision of domiciliary eye care should be made easier; vision checks should form a core part of assessments in frailty and falls services, and optometrists’ public health and disease prevention potential should be fully realised.
