An annual report published by the Association of Optometrists (AOP) highlighted that its five year strategy was at the heart of all of its activities over the past year.
Activities ranged from working to represent the profession in its negotiations with government, the NHS and policymakers, and providing education opportunities to supporting members facing employment, regulatory or clinical negligence issues.
The association’s Sight Won’t Wait campaign prompted government to commission the sector to create a new extended eye care pathway, which formed part of its lobbying efforts to raise its profile and influence.
Optometry students were prioritised as part of efforts to adapt membership to meet changing needs, including providing guidance on changes resulting from the GOC Education Strategic Review.
