Asda has claimed victory over Specsavers after a nine-month legal battle in which the multiple sued the supermarket for trademark infringement in a marketing promotion last autumn (News 30.10.09).
Specsavers took legal action over the campaign which saw the slogans 'Be a real Spec Saver at Asda' and 'Spec Savings at Asda' used in Asda practices and on the company's website and Twitter account.
Specsavers also took issue with a new Asda Opticians logo featuring overlapping ellipses, claiming that these were calculated to take advantage of its 'extensive reputation'.
After the proceedings concluded at the Royal Courts of Justice, Asda informed Optician that it had 'won on every allegation made by Specsavers except for one'.
