A strong statement has been issued by the Association of Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians (AIO) following the DoH’s increase in GOS fees and optical vouchers.
Describing the increases as ‘paltry’, the AIO said the increases came as little surprise to independents.
A spokesperson for the AIO council stated: ‘The DoH said that “the public had no difficulty in obtaining a sight test, more practices were opening than closing and that private sight test fees were often below the NHS fee, while spectacles could be purchased for as little as £25”. They may just as well have said “we understand little about the long-term health of the nation”.’
