Associations unite to tackle illegal CL sales

The BCLA and the Association of Independent Optometrists (AIO) have agreed to support the GOC in intensifying the effort to monitor and eradicate the illegal sales of contact lenses across the country, including UK-based websites.

The associations have agreed to ask their respective memberships to be the GOC’s ‘eyes and ears’ to ensure the action they take against offending businesses is as effective as possible.

The process will involve collating incident reports from members and presenting them to the Council so that offending businesses can be contacted and told to desist, followed by a referral to local Trading Standards authorities if this was ineffective.
