Audiologists battle workforce strains

Workforce strains were a key concern impacting the audiologist profession, according to an annual report by The British Irish Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association (BIHIMA).

A survey of 101 audiologists across the NHS and private sector in the UK and ROI found significant workforce strain from staffing shortfalls, pay disparities, and burnout - particularly within the NHS.

The association said this revealed the growing burden audiology professionals carry and the disconnect between what they’re able to provide and what patients truly need. 

Many advocated for better access to care, such as national self-referral options and more community clinics, as well as the collective need for improvements through collaboration, across healthcare and professional associations.
