Aviemore Opticians fills domiciliary gap

Highlands-based Aviemore Opticians has launched a domiciliary eye care service in response to growing regional demand.

Talking to the Strathspey & Badenoch Herald, practice manager Peter Veen said there were very few domiciliary visits happening in the area and many of the local residents had been in contact desperately seeking home visits.

‘People get letters through the post offering home visits but when they phone up they say they don’t do the Highlands, as it’s too remote. One recent new patient told us that a certain larger multiple who does visits said they would only come see him if he paid £200 just to come out, not including normal visit fees and glasses,’ Veen told the paper.

A second optometrist has now joined the practice, which is now open six days a week. Domiciliary visits were scheduled to start in the next three to four months.
