A record number of entries have been received for this year's Optician Awards, providing a tough task for our judging panels who meet today (March 3).

As Optician went to press the number of entries was double last year's tally with some of the new categories faring particularly well.

Among the shortlists being decided today are those for the Contact Lens Practice of the Year sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, Outstanding Dispensing Optician sponsored by BBGR, Healthy Sight Practice sponsored by Transitions Optical and the Community Involvement Award sponsored by Specsavers. Also having shortlists drawn up are the Optical Product of the Year, the Large High Street Multiple Award and the Independent Fightback Award.

The Technology Practice of the Year Award sponsored by Grafton Optical and Relcon topped the chart for the number of entries received. This was closely followed by a new category, the Charity Campaign of the Year sponsored by The Outside Clinic.

The shortlist in the Contribution to CET Award sponsored by Dollond & Aitchison will be announced in two week's time.

Our award winners will be revealed at a black tie dinner and evening of entertainment at the Radisson SAS Hotel, London on April 25.
