A transition of eye care services from Plymouth's Royal Eye Infirmary, Mutley, to Derriford Hospital has been completed.

Last weekend staff from the Royal Eye Infirmary marked the move by pushing a giant inflatable eyeball, sourced from the US, between the two locations.

They sported T-shirts reading 'Let's get the RE (eyeball) rolling' during the three-mile walk and were joined by colleagues from the hospital's planning department. Staff were officially welcomed to their new location by Ann James, chief executive of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Steve Slater, medical and ophthalmic photographer at the Royal Eye Infirmary, said: 'It's important to mark the move, it's a big change for everybody and it's nice to mark the transition from here to our new home.' The new clinic at Derriford Hospital became fully operational on Wednesday January 30.
