Nicholas JonesManchester Royal Eye Hospital has marked its bicentenary year with an academic conference attracting 400 delegates travelling from 23 countries.

There were 125 invited speakers at the event, covering topics including paediatric ophthalmology, glaucoma, uveitis, retinal disease and ophthalmic imaging.

Nicholas Jones (pictured), consultant ophthalmologist and lead organiser of the conference, said: ‘The feedback we have had from the conference has been overwhelmingly positive. In addition to showcasing the leading clinical and research work performed at MREH, many prestigious invited speakers, including MREH alumni, gave excellent lectures.

‘There were 128 free papers and posters submitted to a conference which will be memorable not only because of its scientific quality, but also because of its friendly atmosphere and important occasion.’

An open day to mark the centenary has also been planned on October 21, when the hospital will open its doors to the public.
