Manchester Royal Eye Hospital this week held a bicentenary open day to mark the hospital’s inauguration on Trafalgar Day 1814.

On October 21, guests were invited to take in a variety of exhibitions and information, while the hospital also opened its doors to the public.

This included the chance to look at virtual reality eyewear, have a visual acuity test and view an exhibition of paintings celebrating 200 years of research into vision at the hospital.

Nicholas Jones, consultant ophthalmic surgeon and chair of the bicentenary organising committee, said: ‘This is a very important year for Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, and I am thrilled to be part of the team organising the bicentenary of one of the world’s most celebrated eye hospitals.’
