For the first time in the 34-year history of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), its president will serve a two-year term of office.
At a recent London meeting its council members voted for the change which means existing president Shelly Bansal will remain in office until May 2012 before handing over to president elect Dr Catharine Chisholm. Past president William Thomas said: 'No organisation can stand still and that includes the BCLA, which is going through a very important phase of its development. I am delighted that during this critical period of the BCLA's growth, our existing president has agreed to serve for a second year in order to bring continuity.'
