The BCLA is seeking nominations for two lay representatives to join its Council, increasing the number of voting members to 15.
Following a resolution passed at its recent AGM, the Association hopes to recruit lay members with either legal or financial experience, joining a Council of optometric, dispensing, medical and technical representatives and office holders. Council meets six times a year and all members give their time voluntarily.
President Christopher Kerr explained that the move was among the recommendations of an external review of the BCLA's activities, aimed at creating a more democratic, modern and efficient organisation. 'As other professional bodies have recognised, lay members will bring additional skills to Council and a new perspective to what we do. The BCLA has moved towards playing a greater role in the public arena so their input will be very welcome.'
