Nominations for new council members are being sought by the College of Optometrists.
The vacancies for 2009 exist in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Eastern, London and the South West.
Council members must either work or live in the region for which they wish to be elected and are expected to serve a term of three years up to a maximum of 12 years.
Responsibilities for members elected to the council include monitoring the performance of the board of trustees and ensuring that the College remains true to its principles and is fully accountable to its membership. Council members are also responsible for electing the College president, vice president, treasurer and trustees.
