Bausch & Lomb's golden jump

Olympic gold medallist and world record holder for the triple jump, Jonathan Edwards, jumped to victory in the 2000 Sydney Olympics wearing continuous wear, PureVision contact lenses from Bausch & Lomb.

Mr Edwards has poor natural vision, so wore PureVision throughout his training and when he won the gold medal in the third round by jumping 17.71 metres in the triple jump event. He said: 'I am overwhelmed with the win. I had to choke back the tears - it's great to be part of such a successful British team. PureVision lenses gives me clear sight because they let my eyes breathe and prevent them from drying - which has proved to be critical as the quality of how you see can affect your performance. Over the last two weeks and throughout my training I have just had to get up and go and thankfully wearing PureVision has now given me the freedom to do this. My life is hectic enough.' He added that PureVision lenses not only save him time, which he can dedicate to his training or his family, but he can feel confident that his sight will not let him down. Mr Edwards' optometrist, Alistair Wade from Steven and Wade Optometrists in Newcastle, said he was 'delighted' to hear the news from Sydney.
