BBGR adapts lens for India

Lenses

Anateo Jeevan

Lens maker BBGR has introduced Anateo Jeevan, the UK's first progressive lens designed to meet the visual needs of presbyopes from the Indian subcontinent.

The company adapted its Anateo design to meet the requirements of presbyopes from that region, which were discovered in a year-long survey of 37,000 patients in Chennai and Bangalore.

Compared to European and North American wearers, significant differences were found in PD, eye length, rotational axis, BVD and wrap angle. Also noted among typical Indian presbyopes were greater head movement and a tendency to hold objects closer when reading.

Nick Browning, BBGR business development director, said: 'Our survey clearly illustrated that the design should be optimised for the very different parameters found in wearers from the Indian subcontinent. These differences may explain why opticians often comment that non-tolerance rates in Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi patients are higher than in other population groups.'
